Lee's Summit has grown from about 41,000 to about 107,000 residents. Joe Perry of the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council credits consistent policy and plans, a 40-year-old EDC with city leaders on its board, a historic downtown and a steady pipeline of public-private partnerships.
The current mayor and council have approved 34 public-private partnerships and counting, and Joe Perry expects nearly 40 by the end of their term. In an earlier eight-year stretch, the city approved 11.
Joe Perry says incentives make sense when a project would not have grown as well elsewhere and every jurisdiction, from the school board to the sewer district, comes out ahead.
